Meet Danna Standridge

When you talk to Danna, you will find she loves to laugh and is dedicated to her God, her family, her country, and Sweet Home Alabama! And, like her father, she always has a story to tell.

Danna Swann Standridge has family roots that run deep into Alabama’s soil. She was born in Blount County to a family who has made their home in Alabama since 1818. She grew up on a cattle farm. She married her high school sweetheart, David Standridge, who also grew up on a farm in Blount County. They are members of Hayden First Baptist Church and are blessed with three children and five grandchildren.

Danna graduated Summa cum laude from Athens State University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She earned a double major in biology and English and received the Outstanding Biology Major Award. She is also a graduate of Wallace State Community College, summa cum laude.

While her children were young, Danna stayed home to raise the family and later went on to teach public school at her alma mater, Hayden High School. She organized many clubs and extracurricular activities. She taught biology, AP biology, anatomy, and English classes. She took biology students to Dauphin Island Sea Lab to study marine biology and ecosystems.

Community service and leadership are important to Danna. While at Hayden High School, she created and implemented a student leadership program. After leaving the classroom, Danna worked with Auburn University through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in youth leadership and community classes. This enabled her, along with the support of Blount County Superintendent, to develop and implement the Blount County Ambassador Leadership Program in all seven county high schools where students earn community service hours as they serve their school and community.

Danna has served as both president and chaplain for the Alabama Legislative Club, which is composed of the spouses of the state legislators. During her tenure as president, she worked to secure the Alabama Legislative Art Gallery in the state capitol which features artwork from Alabama artists.

As the wife of state representative for District 34, David Standridge, Danna is an advocate for rural Alabama, youth leadership, education, and Southern traditions. David and Danna are honored to work together for the good of the district and the state of Alabama.

Danna loves reading, writing, collecting vintage cookbooks, knitting, fishing, driving her ’57 Chevy, and spending time with the family, including her two dogs and a cat. And, of course, she loves to cook.
